Vessels with Sculpted Wood
“Sculpted wood pieces have graceful flowing lines and a contemporary flair.”
The pieces I create with sculpted wood start with hardwood lumber. I cut and then sculpt the wood with a power rasp. The wood is sanded until a very smooth surface is achieved and the wood’s hidden beauty is revealed. I then make the clay form to complement the wood. As the clay dries I separate the clay and wood so that I can fire the clay (see Clay and Fire). After the clay is fired, I attach the wood permanently with a lifetime adhesive.
